Many ideas came to my mind with all of the topics/questions that we dicussed in class.
The crescive norms of ladies wearing a while wedding gown that represents their purity. Most of my girfriends shold not have worn the typical white gown (bust still did) but only a handful of my girlfriends would have been able to pull that off.
I am so not pleased when children do not say their please and thank you's because that is just an unwritten rule that people should follow, but we know that it doens't happen, along with people eating with their mouth open or chewing gum like a cow eating grass. Many of my girlfriends are teaching those manners to their little ones.. Also, many children do not respect their elders. I myself was taught to open doors or to help the elderly just because. It wasn't something that was meant to be mean, but just a respectful thing that you do.
When I worked near the Northeast Yellowstone Park enterance a few summers ago, many of the Europeans didn't tip well because they assumed that it was already included into the price. There are many people who feel uncomforatbble if you should tip someone or not. Most of the time, you will look to others and if they are tipping, then you will leaving soemthing that is hopefully in the middle. There are some US states that only pay a feww bucks an hour to their servers because they are supposed to make more in tips than the actual minimum wage. Even then, most of them will not recieve an actual paycheck from their employers.
I feel so bad for those born from Thanksgiving to New Years because sometimes your friends and family just forget about your birthday that is about three days after Christmas and will just use an extra gift and say that is your birthday gift. that had happend to my ex husband because he was born three days after Christmas and he knew there were some gifts that were going to be a Christmas item, but was a birthday gift instead.
I thought an unpleasant gift would be some sort of sexy lingereie from your parents because that just feels eek. Some of those items could include a wedding or annerversery gift that they give you. I know that I would not enjoy an item along that train of thought.
There are many rites or passes that we didn't discuss, but hardly anyone brought up religious rights of passage. For me as a Catholic, baptism, first communion were big ones and as I got older I had decided to get confirmed into the Church. This was in the year 2000, the year of Jubilee and there were many Catholics who wanted to join me and everyone in this joyous occasion. As with others, the ability to go into a temple because you are worthy, etc.
There are many rites of passages that are not in existance because there is no one who can perform those acts to the full powerful ezxtint. For example, the whaling hunt, there are people in a motor boat who have weapons to take down the whale in a humane way in case the traditional way gets messed up. Not many yourn people are able to performt his act as successful as our ansestors. The othe rexample what the spean fishing in northern Wisconsin near the Canadian border. There is a tribe was guaranteed the right to spear fish and the non-natives feel they take too many walley fish, when in fact they fish more than five times (I am not sure of the amount, but they take more fish than the native communites)
All of this blog has to deal with the cultures chapter that we discussed in class and that we had read prior to class. Like I said, these were ideas/thoughts/feelings that I had during our lecture but I am just too shy to bring them up in class.
